RB: Tell us about your typical day. What time do you start? What do you do? How does your day end?
AO: There is no typical day for me just yet, I do start my day at 4:30 am most days and go to bed by 9:30 pm, my day is a series of multi-tasking, I am not yet a full time entrepreneur, thus I have to juggle everything in order to be efficient and serve my clients. I’m an avid planner, so my day goes by the hour and then I schedule things in as to ensure that I get everything done. I am usually either creating content or taking care of my clients! I hope to get my time management down some day, we can wish!
RB: What do you do to preserve your health as you run your business? Do you have any rituals, for example?
AO: My health is very near and dear to me as I suffer from a chronic illness, its very difficult managing my disease and trying to run a successful business but I am here to fight another day. For my mental health? I usually vent and journal my feelings a lot! People get me very upset because they do not understand the trials of a entrepreneur but I vent to my friends. I also recently joined the gym, although I am there as much as I want to be. I get up almost every morning and I give thanks for the blessings of seeing another day, I am very grateful for my life since I have had one near death experience that has forever changed my outlook in life.
RB: Can you discuss some of the major changes that have occurred between starting your business and where it is now? For example, business model or management changes?
AO: I started off with my focus being on blogging but now I am focusing a lot more on developing the holistic view of Trinidad Mogulista, the t-shirt line, my visibility strategy and also working with my one on one clients.
RB: What are some of the challenges you are facing or have faced this year?
AO: My major challenge is staying focused on my goals, I have so many distractions that it is very difficult to stay on course. I would also say having genuine people around me that support my dreams has made the journey even more difficult. Time management and staying on task, it seems that I do not have enough hours in the day. Sigh …..
RB: Describe what innovation means in your business and how do you go about it.
AO: I love being innovative, it means that I can try new things, it means that I can get up and go about my day with a new and vibrant method of achieving my goals. So all the new social media updates, have me uber excited! I can’t wait to test them out and give them a whirl!
RB: How do you balance being a “big dreamer” vs setting realistic goals for your business?
AO: I have great accountability partners who help me navigate my goals for Trinidad Mogulista, I have found that setting a big goal for the year has definitely kept me on track.
RB: Who or what motivates you to keep going with your business? And Why?
AO: Motherhood and myself, sorry to sound narcissistic but I motivate me, seeing how far I have gotten in the last nine months with Trinidad Mogulista, by me just being laser focused has definitely made me HUNGRY for success! Having a legacy for my daughter to look back at and see, all that her mom has accomplished, being able to directly provide for her and ensure that her dreams can be nurtured without hassle, is definitely my top motivator.
RB: Has your definition of success changed since you have started your business? If so, how?
AO: My definition of success hasn’t changed, success to me is living life on your own terms, going after your goals and completing the goals that you set. Success looks different on everyone, so not letting other people’s success define me but charting the course on my own.
RB: What would you say is the most important skill required to run a business?
AO: Being able to make a series of quick decisions by trusting your gut. That’s exactly what entrepreneurship is.
RB: There are a lot of myths about entrepreneurs. Now that you have started and are successfully running your own business what would you say is the biggest myth? What have you learned most from it.
AO: That entrepreneurs make a lot of money and are always looking to “con” some-one out of their money. Nothing can be further from the truth. Entrepreneurs are usually in a lot of debt and 90% of the entrepreneurs I have met are always willing to help!
