RB: Why did you create The Curly Tales?
RP: I created The Curly Tales so I can share my ideas, thoughts, tips and tricks in a positive and safe place for everyone.
RB: Hair is a big topic for all women, especially women of colour. Why is hair such a big part of the female experience?
RP: Starting my blog was a series of “People won’t care”, “I don’t think the world needs another blogger” etc. After going back and forth with myself, I finally started my blog in February 2017. I wanted to be a positive inspiration for people and share my life and what I love to do, with them.
RP: I haven’t quite gotten to the point of monetizing my blog, but I hope to figure it out, however, I’m not doing this for money, I do it for the love of doing the things I post.
RB: Where would you like to take Curly Tales?
RP: I would love to get to that place where people come to me for hair or makeup tips and possibly sell some of the DIY products that I make for myself.
RB: How do you stand out in the very saturated hair blogging market?
RP: I believe I standout because I’m not pushing a product or a picture perfect lifestyle. I’ve spoken about how hard it is for me to be back at school and how it’s difficult to post all the time. It’s a learning process for me and I just want my followers to be able to relate to me. Like some of my followers, I may not be able to afford every single product that it available and said to be amazing, but I can whip up something from products found in my kitchen. That’s something most people can afford to do.
RB: Are there any particular bloggers that you admire and look to for inspiration?
RP: There are so many Grenadian and International bloggers I admire. My fellow local bloggers like The Fab Life Story, Amarnanixo, Je Suis Laureen, Sea Salt and Style are just a few major influences for me. International bloggers such as love Justinexo, HiFelicia and Sayria Jade are constant Curlspirations and GOALS!
RB: How do you stay motivated to blog and what would you say to others who want to s tart blogging as well.
RP: My ultimate rule for life is, to do what you love. If you aren’t producing something you love, your audience will be able to tell. Also, stay true to who you are as a person and you’ll attract the right crowd for your blog. The way I stay motivated is by having an amazing group of friends who constantly encourage and support what I’m doing.
