Perla once said in an interview with Women in Agroscience that,
“My professional development was not linear, it was very curvy, as I imagine it may have been for others too. Not everyone starts with a defined path and this is perfectly fine.”
I admire Perla’s ability to reflect and her strong sense of self-awareness. She defines the term, life-long learner, always striving and growing in her discipline and life generally. Since starting her Spanish-written blog Agrochic in 2009 much has transpired. In 2014 she was recognised as Blogger of the Year and in 2016, Agrochic was nominated as one of the best Latino health and wellness blogs at the Tecla Awards during Hispanize. She became certified in Horticultural Therapy (HTC) by the Chicago Botanical Garden in 2019. In 2021, she was named the winner of the BY Morrison Communications Award , from the American Horticultural Society (AHS). Perla continues to recreate herself because she believes self is the best investment.
